where we confront the abyss of the self, 
where desire and repulsion intertwine, 
a moment of transcendence and dissolution.”

In the collection JOUISSANCE: The Permanent Alternation of Woman and Monster, Errin Shin delves into the abject’s edge, where jouissance arises. Kristeva’s conception of jouissance involves a complex interplay between pleasure and pain... between desire and disgust. It encompasses both the ecstatic experience of merging with “the other” and the unsettling encounter with what is considered socially, culturally, or psychologically repulsive. 


Unveiling archetypes of the monstrous feminine (Barbara Creed) from horror cinema, "JOUISSANCE" is discovered through a regurgitated transformation of these archetypes. A place where "woman" is envisioned as an enlightened creature, wherein the “I” does not disappear, but finds in the repulsion a sublime alienation, a fallen existence... where skin serves not only as a physical boundary, but a psychic boundary. 


Through a cathartic interrogation of the “abject,” we unravel: What is beauty when it is stripped to its raw core?

The Swallow Leviathan collection started from the myth of the sea monster “Leviathan,” whose myriad of historical and mythological references include a female sea creature that swallows the souls of the damned, Thomas Hobbes’s political theory advocating for a social contract by the rule of an absolute sovereign, and a term regarding giant whales. I was also greatly inspired by the song “Leviathan” by Flavien Berger I interpret the human form into a past-human form, through the silhouettes and materials of threelooks. Traditional garment-making techniques such as needle felting, couture corsetry, and pattern making are paired with experimental practices of laser-cutting, latex hardware and details, and flipping the needle-felted wool inside-out to highlight the fuzziness rather than the traditional needle-felted texture.&#38;nbsp;
Through these chapters, I divulge into a hyperbole of the life cycle of the human psyche: birth, life, and death/rebirth, through the metaphor of “swallowing the leviathan,” the leviathan being the great, ambiguous evil.


	The first look/chapter, Expulsion&#38;nbsp; of Guts, symbolizes the vulnerability of birth and coming into existence, one fantasized through the literal externalization of the human spirit coming into the physical world. The cotton bobbinet push-up Bustino Robe features needle-felted wool, a front zip, and latex straps. This is paired with the low-rise, drop-crotch trousers made with up-cycled leather and wool that has been laser-cut with the shape of human-intestines. It has a cotton-bobbinet trouser lining on the inside for comfort and wearability.

The second look/chapter, The Illusion of Freedom, symbolizes the life struggle of power and control in which we are vulnerable to the elements of life and struggle for autonomy over our path and body. It features a copper-patina steel rod suctioned between a rubber latex strapless dress.

The third look/chapter, Metal-Morphosis, symbolizes the transcendence of the human form in death/ transformation. It features a steel DRESS with a welded gusset wave, leather side lacing, and human hair. There is a separate lining for this made from deadstock leather with the same patterning technique for the front piece.

This collection explores the paradox between the perpetual evolution of all organic objects against the rigidity of the concept of time.&#38;nbsp;
Absurdity and nonsense become meaningful, distinct to each interpretation.&#38;nbsp;
Choreography and improvisation become interchangeable in the landscape of the human experience just as the self becomes entangled with the ego.&#38;nbsp;

Symmetry of Vice is a study in the disintegration—of identity, of memory, of perceived wholes. It navigates the tension between sexuality, queerness, womanhood, youth, and the haunting echo of innocence—an innocence not lost, but disturbingly preserved, like taxidermy: beautiful, grotesque, and uncomfortably still. Through this collection, DEUX ITCH explores the idea of fitting things — memories, selves, bodies — into places intuitively, as an act of intimacy with the self.

Symmetry of Vice contemplates the fragmented body, the self refracted in the mirror, the eerie sense that we can only see ourselves when turned inside-out. In this space of distorted reflection, disassociation is a survival tactic. Familiarity becomes uncanny, and the microforms of daily life—the texture of routines, the quiet shapes of habit—offer a banal comfort amid existential noise.
This collection dwells in distant closeness—a symmetry of vices, where softness masks sharpness and distortion becomes clarity. It does not offer resolution but instead renders the act of unbecoming: a poetic unraveling that resists the binaries of sacred and obscene, flesh and object, being and performance.
It is a meditation on what it means to house contradiction in skin, to dress the soul in echoes, to feel one's self slipping yet held. It is about the unspoken language of preservation and decay, and how we try to make sense of ourselves by piecing together what was never whole to begin with.
