AIR IN SIN
THE AIR IN SIN.
is a multidisciplinary fashion artist and designer based in New York City. Shin's design world echoes a Kafkaesque regurgitation of mundanity into her vision of a corporeal surreality. She probes the question, “What is PAST-HUMAN?" through automatism inspired by the Dada movement such as draping on her body and experimental, distorted pattern-making. Shin designs both wearable sculptures and versatile clothing with a deep-rooted practice in the craft of making clothing with a flair for experimenting with unconventional materials including rubber, steel, and developing new materialities.
Seoul-born and Colorado-raised, Shin grapples with themes of utopia/dystopia and fragmentations of the “self” through the lens of philosophy and psychoanalysis. Having grown up the daughter of a physical therapist as well as training in classical ballet, figure skating, and contemporary dance, Shin has a deep-seated connection with and fascination for the human body.
With training from Parsons School of Design and Central Saint Martins, Shin views fashion as a vessel to externalize preciousness. Her work has been featured in publications including Metal Magazine, Office Magazine, Galore Magazine, and more. She was featured as the "Designer on the Cusp" in Photobook Magazine.
Influenced by nightly nightmares, philosophy, primordial history, film, critical theory, Dada, and psychoanalysis, Shin translates the intangible into the graspable through “THE AIR IN SIN.”
